SEPTEMBER 2008 CORONADO VISUAL AWARD
JEFF SCOVIL/
FURENZA
734 EAST CORONADO ROAD
Mid-block between 7th and 10th streets on Coronado Road, in the farthest lower left corner of the Greater Coronado Neighborhood, is the home of Jeff Scovil. This short block of Coronado is the home to many larger home is the coronado neighborhood, and a street that has a representation of each style in the neighborhood all in one block. It is a neighborly block, and each neighbor has been supportive and helpful in some of the best additions and restoration in the Coronado Historic District.
For the past 20 years Jeff has been lovingly "restoring" this 1920 craftsman bungalow. Restoration is different than remodeling as it requires extreme careful attention to detail and dedication to a project one step at a time. "Furenza is a long time friend and personal assistant as well as office manager for my photography business and takes care of the place while I am gone on frequent trips. I decided to do the xeriscaping a long time ago and gave her the go ahead before I left on my last trip but left the details up to her", says Jeff. Furenza created a "Desert Garden" design. In my conversation with Furenza, about the project, she pointed out that a "garden" is different than landscaping, and in that she wanted to illustrate the same attention to placement and detail that Jeff has accumulated over the years in the home itself. She certainly accomplished this task with brilliant results. Jeff and Fruenza mention that the "The landscaping was done by Arizona's Cutting Edge, Clayton Mathiesen 602-954-7796, who was obviously a major part of the creative process."
Enjoy the photos below and take a drive down this street to sample the homes and the work that has gone into this cut-through street that provides high visibility to to City of the Historic District lieing so close to the intersections and freeways of the city.
